A presentation of the book-album “Traditional Udmurt wedding” was held on November 2 (12+), which was released as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of statehood. The correspondent of the news agency “Udmurtia” attended the event.
The presentation of the book was held in accordance with all the customs of an Udmurt wedding – the staff of the museum-reserve “Ludorvay” greeted the guests with rehearsals, songs and dances. Also at the festival a turo is needed (chief at the Udmurt wedding), he was the head of the project “Wedding of the peoples of the world: cultural heritage”, author of the book ‘Traditional Udmurt wedding” Denis Knyazev. Now the wedding cortege can go to the event itself, where the Aikai Theater will acquaint you with the wedding traditions of the Udmurts.
Preparation for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Udmurtia has been begun long ago. Two years ago, we decided to publish a cycle of books about weddings of various peoples of the world, and in honor of the 100th anniversary of the statehood of Udmurtia, we will start with our republic. The book is intended for an international audience. It will adorn our regional and metropolitan libraries
The book “Traditional Udmurt wedding” received the aegis of the Commission of Russia for UNESCO.
Denis Knyazev collects ethnographic material about the weddings of the peoples of the world, once he decided to shoot a traditional Udmurt wedding. It was this publication that became the first in the project “Weddings of the nations of the world: cultural heritage”.
When I shot a traditional Udmurt wedding, I realized that in addition to filming the project, we would create a book in parallel, and each nation would have a book in three languages
Information in the book is presented in Russian, Udmurt and English.
Denis Knyazev is not only a project manager, he is also a photographer. His photographs, as well as photographs from the archives of the Kuzebay Gerd national museum, the Glazovsky museum of local lore and the inhabitants of Udmurtia, can be seen on the pages of the album.
The photographs in the book are accompanied by interesting information about the Udmurt wedding. The doctor of historical sciences, professor of the Russian academy of sciences Alexei Zagrebin became the scientific leader of the project.
The appearance of each new book is a great joy. This book is about one of the important tunes of the life of all the peoples of the world
And the Udmurt state theater of folk song and dance “Aikai” and the ensemble “Azves nyuzha” are the main characters of the book. The artists have done a great job having recreated the traditional Udmurt wedding on the territory of the museum-reserve “Ludorvay”.
It was important for me to show the wedding as it was at the beginning of the 20th century. The whole point of it is to show people friendly, to show that they are rich in traditions, that they have a rich history and tell about this not only in our region, but also in Russia, so that the whole world will know about this wedding
The minister of national policy of Udmurtia Larisa Buranova noted that the book will be relevant at all times.
There are things that are eternal, that are timeless; there is traditional culture among such things. The book contains both contemporary and archival photographs <…> I think this is an eternal theme. The book can be used by those who are now creating families; people can take from there some elements of both the costume and the very course of the wedding
The book-album was prepared for printing by the publishing house “Udmurtia”.
The author of the book “Traditional Udmurt wedding” said that the publication was planned to be presented at the UN headquarters in New York in 2021.
