An exhibition of coins of sports events “Coins of Glory” (0+) was opened at the Museum of Sports in Izhevsk (Udmurtskaya St., 267/2) On March 24. It was reported by the press office of the town administration.
Izhevsk schoolchildren were the first who visited it. An excursion was conducted for children and introduced to the history of the appearance of the “Coins of Glory”.
The head of the Bank of Russia branch in the republic Tatiana Zhiganshina said that commemorative coins depicting sporting events have been issued regularly since 1980. About 200 coins are dedicated to the sport at the moment.
The event was attended by the head of the town Oleg Bekmemetiev. Addressing the students, he noted how important it is to know history.
The exhibition was also attended by the famous skier, two-time Olympic champion Tamara Tikhonova and biathlete, two-time Olympic medalist Ivan Tcherezov. The athletes wished the schoolchildren to lead a healthy lifestyle.
