There are Glazov and Sarapul not only in Udmurtia, but also in space. The head of the region Alexander Brechalov said about it in “VKontakte”.
A crater 25 km in diameter on Mars was named Glazov – this name was not chosen by chance. In order to name the craters on the red planet, several points must be observed. First, the name of a town on Earth must have a population of less than 100,000. Second – if the crater is from 50 to 99 km, the word should have three syllables, if less than 50 km – two syllables. According to these parameters, the “northern capital of the region” came up.
Asteroid 26851 (1992OV5) is over 6 km in diameter orbiting the Sun. For the first time it was noticed in 1974 as an unknown space body. The asteroid officially received its name “Sarapul” in 2007.
